Our Time at SXSW

large-1

large

We’re back from South by Southwest and had an awesome time at the conference in Austin, Texas! Our CEO Azeem Azhar pitched the PeerIndex concept to actor Owen Wilson who really liked what he heard. There were some very smart marketers in attendance who were getting ready for the second wave of influence. Our SXSW team met hundreds of awesome people including our fellow exhibitors all looking to make great things happen and being very open to collaboration.

There was a pitch at every party we went to – everyone had an angle, however unusual! We seemed to take the weather with us though – It was cold and wet in one of the warmest parts of America as us Brits arrived!

Check out some pictures of the team in their ‘Science of Influence’ labcoats.

Look out for exciting new projects from PeerIndex coming soon. In the meantime, make sure you check out your profile and see which perks and rewards you qualify for:

Vote for Us to Speak About Social Capital Becoming Real Capital!

On Friday 22nd February we’d very much like you to listen to our ‘Commercial guy’ Craig Hughes talk about turning your social capital into real capital at Shoreditch Digital. But we really need your vote to make it happen! The person with the most votes gets to speak so vote for PeerIndex and Craig here.

PeerPerk

Social capital is a very core human concept – we establish bonds with other people based on trust, and these bonds influence our decisions. Being able to influence somebody’s decisions is valuable. We all do it when we recommend a film to a friend, or encourage a colleague to try out our favourite restaurant.

WOM

Of course, it existed before social media – but it was really hard to benefit from it. With publicly available social media data and ever-advancing algorithms to analyse them, there’s a big opportunity to turn social capital into real capital. We’re only at the beginning of this transformation: You can get special rewards from companies, but what if you could get your dream job based on a social index, or find a new partner?

Questions Craig will answer:

    • How can we make the intricate ties that exist between humans visible?
    • What is social capital, and how can it transform into real capital?
    • Should we be able to transparently benefit from our influence in the first place or does this undermine the very system that allows us to gain it?

CraigSpeaker Bio: Craig is one of the UK’s top Influencer Marketing researchers and practitioners. Having conducted research alongside IBM and PeerIndex, he joined the PeerIndex commercial team in 2012 and has worked on the planning and delivery of Influencer Marketing campaigns for clients from multinationals Ford and Samsung, to brilliant startups such as Flavrbox and Seedrs.

Social Media Week London: Get the PeerPerks You Deserve

Social Media Week London is here until the 28th of September and this year sees a number of talks and training events around the capitol.

Amongst them is Are You Being Served? Influence, Engagement & Customer Service, which will take place on Thursday 27th September from 2.00 pm until 3.30 pm at  60 Great Portland Street, London, W1W 7RT. Our CEO Azeem Azhar will speak at this event about social media influence and how individuals can use it to receive the service they deserve from their favourite brands.

Azeem Azhar

We identify PeerIndex Influencers – who are authorities on specific topics. What subject do your friends, both online and offline, come to you for advice on? If you are actively engaged online there will be some specific topics you are more influential in than your twitter and Facebook friends. Whether you realise it or not you are an expert and authority in some things, no matter how random or obscure they may seem to you. We offer you PeerPerks for this social capital you have worked so hard to build up.

PeerPerks

Current PeerPerks include two free cinema tickets and a chance to attend the Virgin Media Shorts Awards ceremony, a month’s supply of Cravendale milk and some epic straws to drink it with and £100 to invest in startup companies with Seedrs. These PeerPerks are buzzing.

We invite you to take a look at our current PeerPerks and see Azeem at tomorrow’s Social Media Week London event.

Other speakers will include Xavier de Lecaros-Aquise, Co-Founder / COO – Chief Operations Officer at Girl Meets Dress.com, Lee Bryant, MD Europe at Dachis Group, Andrew Grill, CEO of KRED and Joshua March, Co-Founder & CEO of Conversocial. Chairing the event will be Kathrn Corrick, Strategic Communications Consultant, and Chinwag are hosting.

PeerParty: The Digital Influence Event

What a night! We’ve been busy this summer working on our new platform and to celebrate it being almost complete we threw a party for digital influencers in London last night.

Party Guests

Hosted at Bond in Soho, the venue was heaving by 7 pm with guests eager to hear about the brand new PeerIndex. Live twitter feeds were projected on the walls showing tweets @PeerIndex and #PeerParty as well as PeerIndex scoreboards with guests’ PI scores.

Our CEO Azeem Azhar gave a talk at 7.30 with a little surprise: Guests who had dropped their business cards in the fish bowl at the entrance had been entered into a competition to win a stylish ride home with Uber.

Azeem Azhar

Azeem introduced some new team members, board members and investors and went through the changes users can expect on our new interface: A new dashboard, a cleaner, clearer look, our beautifully designed donut chart and an improved algorithm that takes better account of spam.

Were you at our event? Tweet us at @PeerIndex with #PeerParty and let us know your thoughts!

Jubilee 'Perks'

Like everyone, we’re thrilled with the Jubilee Weekend and excitement is building up around the city as it is painted in red, white and blue. With an array of interesting events to attend and things to do, it is unlikely to be a boring weekend. This however implies blocked roads, unreliable public transport and a huge general fuss in the street.

Nonetheless Queen Elizabeth II’s Diamond Jubilee celebrations have their perks. Besides an extra Bank Holiday added to the 2012 calendar, there are plenty of things to keep your eyes on. The Times and the Sunday Times, newspapers that have been put behind a paywall for about two years now, are offering free access to their websites this weekend. News International have also announced that their users can access their website without paying this Saturday and Sunday.

The Technology passionate can get discounts from three leading manufacturers: HP, Sony and Dell. All you need to do is log onto their websites and use the Jubilee promotional codes that they provide: HP - MVC10, Sony -  JUBILEE612, Dell - 27PQ$NGWNNVQ10.

We hope you find these tips helpful and we wish you an amazing Jubilee Weekend from everybody here at PeerIndex! See you on Wednesday!

A Packed Weekend – Mozilla Festival and Fireworks!

We know that some of you will be looking forward to Catherine wheels, sparklers and burning a rusty old suit in the shape of Mr Fawkes this Saturday. Well, we can’t wait for it either.

Fireworks 1

But, remember, remember… the Mozilla Festival, kicking off this evening!

We’ll be heading along over the weekend, with our CTO Sanford Dickert giving a talk on Sunday afternoon. Our CEO Azeem Azhar will also be there on Sunday. And the rest of us will be floating around getting involved in the other events from tonight onwards.

Do come and say hey to Sanford, Azeem, or any of us who are at the event.

#MozFest is the hashtag for thoughts and talking about what’s going on during the event.

And if you aren’t already attending but want to come along register here.

Mozilla Festival – Changing the Web, and quite possibly the World

Next weekend we’re heading to the Mozilla Festival as a Human API partner and we just thought we’d share with you some of the bits we’re most looking forward to.

The event is all about reinvention, creation and generally mixing things up. There’ll be a lot of different people there, from journalists to programmers; gamers to activists, and its open for anyone looking for an active weekend or who wants to get their creative juices flowing.

There’ll be show-and-tells, design challenges and key note speakers (like cartoonist Tim Hunkin and filmmaker Kat Cizek). We can’t wait for the “How do we know who to trust” event that talks about trust in relation to breaking news sources. It’s pretty relevant in light of the recent events in Libya, the Arab Spring, and the way that news often seems to be whispered as twitter rumours before it’s verified by the news organisations.

Screen_shot_2011-10-26_at_14

Other events we’ll be keeping a close eye on are:

Data-driven journalism.

Hyperaudo magic.

Talks from Apps for Good, Teens in Tech and Wired UK.

If you like the sound of all this and you want to get involved and haven’t registered yet then head to this page.

(And come and say hi to us if you go along).
