Hacking topics and communities of experts

We calculate resonance scores for thousands of topics. A resonance score reflects the extent to which someone says something on that topic which make other people find interesting.

When we have a decent number of people talking about a topic often enough, we can calculate a resonance score for it and even show you a list of people we are authoritative or resonant in that topic. For example, see these lists on entrepreneurship, realtime web, parenting or broadcasting.

During this phase of our beta we will only show you a handful of people–you can reload to see more.

When we don’t have enough people, we might make a guess or simply tell you that we aren’t confident enough with our results. This is the case on topics like infectious diseases, Tesla Motors or airport security. As of today, we don’t feel we know enough to show you any results.

How you can help us

Feel free to hack around with the topic URL

http://www.peerindex.net/topic/[your topic here]

You can try simple combinations like

Cheese: http://www.peerindex.net/topic/cheese or

Blue cheese: http://www.peerindex.net/topic/blue-cheese

or look for companies

Disqus: http://www.peerindex.net/topic/company-disqus or

Inditex SA: http://www.peerindex.net/topic/company-inditex-sa

(Notice how we replace ‘spaces’ with a ‘-’; and prefix company topics with company-)

If you invite your friends who you think know about a subject to join PeerIndex, we can start to index them and build up our knowledge of the communities of experts.
