1. In 140 characters, tell us about you

I am an author, lecturer, charity director, husband, dad, Foster and Adoption Activist, Christian, Justice Champion, Geek, Blogger.

2. Who is your favourite person to follow on twitter?

My friend @manicmum4 is an inspiration she has 4 small children and is caring for her husband Alex who had a catastrophic accident playing rugby. He has had two life saving brain surgeries but has permanently lost his sight and is in long term rehabilitation – I challenge you to watch this video and not shed a tear http://manic-mums.blogspot.co.uk/p/alex-video.html. I love how determined and positive she is despite facing such a tragedy. She is doing everything she can to be a great Mum and is a great model of grace under pressure.

3. When has social media helped you achieve something great?

I am a big advocate for fostering and adoption. We have three fantastic birth children,  a lovely adopted daughter and a constant stream of wonderful foster children. I am working on a campaign that aims to find homes for the 4000 children waiting for adoption in the UK. Social media has helped me connect with other carers, but also find film makers, musicians, politicians, artists who want to help make a difference to the lives of vulnerable children.

4. What makes you unfollow or unlike somebody?

I can’t cope with character assasination – if I feel someone is destroying someones reputation I will quickly unfollow. 140 characters has the potential to do a lot of good but sadly it can do a lot of damage to someone.I love a good debate and will often host discussions on both twitter and facebook – but when people get abusive of those that hold different views to them, I give a warning and if they persist I will unfollow or defriend them.

5. If you could have a topic trend on twitter what would it be and why?

Well apart from Fostering and Adoption, I think the whole issue of Hunger needs to be massive for 2013. The UK is hosting the G8 summit in June this  year and it vital that hunger is on the top of the agenda. It is wrong that a billion people go to bed hungry each night. Twitter is a great place for us to raise this injustice to the world stage and empower our politicians to make difficult choices with budgets to help alleviate extreme poverty.  Look out for the campaign launching soon.

6. Three links you recommend highly are:

- www.threadsuk.com its a website to help people explore questions of spirituality and popular culture – it covers everything from Luis Suarez to Les Miserables to the NRA.
- www.tearfund.org a fantastic aid and development charity that is doing some great work empowering the poor around the world.
- http://www.howitshouldhaveended.com - because its the smartest funniest movie website I know – be careful though it might make you question your favourite movies.

7. Which perk would you like to see PeerIndex run next?

Would love to see you offer a way for some of us to appear on Dr Who as extras – I would become an instant hero to my kids – unless I was turned into a Cyberman.

8. If you were an animal, what would you be and why?

I think I would be a bird – it might make me better at tweeting.

1. In 140 characters, tell us about you.

Blogger and Mum of two living in Lancashire. Sport mad especially BWFC. Keen on photography, music, shoes, film and unbroken sleep (a rarity).

2. Who is your favourite person to follow on twitter?

Can I choose two? Two fellow bloggers who always offer a friendly ear and excellent conversation – @TheBoyandMe and @CoombeMill. Their blogs are really worth checking out, as well as the latter’s amazing holiday farm which is high on my list of places to visit.

3. When has social media helped you achieve something great?

I started my blog as a result of talking to other bloggers on Twitter and they gave me the confidence to write and welcomed me into the community. I did take a break last year, while I was expecting my daughter but I’m very glad to be back blogging now. Social media is such an effective platform for blogging and I’d say a sizable chunk of my blogging time is spent away from writing and trying to engage readers and potential readers through Twitter, Facebook and now Google+. It’s also an invaluable source of advice and inspiration.

4. What makes you unfollow or unlike somebody?

Anyone who posts something bigoted. I’m all for healthy debate but I don’t enjoy the tweets of prejudiced people. I’m also not keen on tweeters, usually companies, who just tweet out information and don’t try to engage their followers. I’m more selective on Twitter than Facebook and interact with very different groups of people on each.

5. If you could have a topic trend on twitter what would it be and why?

This is a tricky one. Part of the fun of Twitter is the way in which trends develop so quickly. The trend that would benefit me most at the moment would be #pottytrainingtips!

6. Three links you recommend highly are:

The first two are great resources for parent bloggers - www.tots100.co.uk and www.britmums.com . If you are starting a blog both sites offer lots of useful information and opportunities. My final site is another social media platform that I’m slightly addicted to – www.pinterest.com. I describe it as my online scrapbook and I love how easy it is to pin and organise sources of inspiration and information on there.

7. Which perk would you like to see PeerIndex run next?

I think I may already have had my perfect PeerIndex perk as I was lucky enough to win a Samsung NX1000 in the recent #wearedavidbailey perk. I’m really interested in photography and am currently undertaking a Project 365 (where you take a photo a day for a year) on my blog so a fantastic new camera was great for me. If I had to choose something else it would be some way to display my photos, perhaps a canvas or photo book perk.

8. If you were an animal, what would you be?

I’d like to be a Giraffe I think. I’ve always wanted to be a bit taller and they seem like quite chilled out animals. The view from up there must be pretty good too.

Social Media Week London: Get the PeerPerks You Deserve

Amongst them is Are You Being Served?
